Byrne Dairy Sets Opening Date for Front Street Store
The convenience store competition in Broome County is heating up as the third Byrne Dairy & Deli unit prepares to open.
The Syracuse-based company moved into the Binghamton market 16 months ago when it opened a store on East Main Street in Endicott. Its second local store began operations on Watson Boulevard in Endwell in November.
Finishing touches are being applied to the next Byrne Dairy & Deli store, which will be located at Front Street and Hillside Drive in the town of Chenango.
Company vice president Christian Brunelle said that store is scheduled to open on August 18.
The Front Street store in Nimmonsburg is just north of the Sonic Drive-In restaurant. A two-story office building had stood on the site. Byrne Dairy acquired the property for $472,000 last January.
Construction has begun for Broome County's fourth Byrne Dairy & Deli convenience store. That unit, which will be located on Route 11 in Whitney Point, is expected to open in October.
The Byrne Dairy stores feature full delis and bakeries, along with ice cream shops. They also offer an attraction to drivers that is rare these days: free air pumps.
