According to Broome County Sheriff's, 36-year-old Devon Trew of Endicott has found himself in even more trouble after being handed several drug smuggling charges at the Broome County Sheriff's Correctional Facility.

Information was given to the Corrections Investigation Unit of the Broome County Sheriff's Office that Trew, who was already incarcerated on a petit larceny charge, was allegedly smuggling contraband into the Broome County jail.

The anonymous tip led investigators to initiate Contraband Protocol and Trew was caught as he attempted to flush a package of contraband down the toilet in his cell.

Broome County Sheriff's say the container was retrieved and that it contained 167.5 suboxone strips with 13 of them containing methamphetamine, a package of tobacco, marijuana, and synthetic cannabis, and matches and striker strips.

Sheriff's report that Trew was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 5th degree, promoting prison contraband in the 1st degree, tampering with evidence, and promoting prison contraband in the 2nd degree.

In a statement, Sheriff Fred Akshar said, “This investigation demonstrates how valuable our community members are in helping create a safer more secure environment at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility.

This isn't the first time that Trew has been arrested for contraband-related charges at the Broome County jail. Broome County Sheriff's say that on January 31, 2018, Trew was found to be in possession of a package that contained heroin, oxycontin pills, synthetic cannabis, tobacco, and matches with striker pads. At that time, Trew was arrested and then sent to state prison for charges related to this case previous case.
