Broome County Sheriff Launches Text Alert System For 911 Callers

Expanding and enhancing communication abilities with crime victims and community members has been implemented, according to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, in an announcement made on July 15, 2026.

Real-Time SMS Text Updates

As of today, July 16, 2026, this new technology provides text updates to community members calling 911 through a new software program from Versaterm CommunityConnect, which is a comprehensive communication platform designed to provide prompt communication, convenience, and transparency with crime victims and those calling for police services with the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the announcement, following a call to 911 or the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line, persons using a mobile phone will receive an automated notification & incident number via text message.

This system provides updates related to the response, including information about the deputy being dispatched, notifications of delays, and access to helpful resources, plus helps keep victims informed throughout various stages of the investigative and judicial process, ensuring they remain connected and up-to-date on response delays or case closures.

How Does It Work?

When a person calls the Broome County Dispatch Center from a cell phone, it will trigger the messaging. Callers will also be able to check the status of their cases via a Broome County online portal.

After verifying their information and case number, victims will be able to view the status of their case and the name of the deputy or detective currently handling it. Still, any private information or sensitive details of the investigation will not be accessible via the service to protect the safety, identity, or other information related to the victims.

This new service is for residents, businesses, and visitors to Broome County. This communication platform is exclusive only to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and is only for incidents for which the Sheriff's Office is the primary agency handling the incident.
