There are some new developments for Taco Bell fans in the Binghamton area.

The restaurant at 429 Court Street on the city's East Side will be closed for several weeks for a major makeover project.

Abdul Tulunay, a representative of the company that operates the location, told WNBF News that the restaurant closed at the end of business on Saturday.

The Taco Bell restaurant at Court and Bigelow streets opened in 1999. The renovation work began Monday with workers gutting the interior of the building.

Tulunay said the location will have a "completely different layout" with a new design featuring several kiosks. Customers also will still be able to place their orders at the counter.

The construction project at the Court Street restaurant is expected to be completed in 10 to 12 weeks. Tulunay said customers may visit Taco Bell locations in Vestal and Johnson City while the renovation work is underway.

Meanwhile, Haza Bell of Northeast LLC, which operates the Broome County Taco Bell restaurants, is moving forward with its plans to open a new location in the town of Chenango.

It will be built at 1243 Upper Front Street, where Hess and Speedway had operated a gas station and convenience store for several years.

The abandoned store is to be demolished in the next few months and construction of the new restaurant should start in early 2025.
