Man Fatally Shot Near Binghamton After-Hours Business
One man was killed and another was seriously injured during an early-morning dispute in Binghamton.
The incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Whitney Avenue and Montgomery Street.
Binghamton Police Chief John Ryan said shots rang out in the area of a small plaza on Robinson Street.
He told WNBF News police officers were "in the immediate area monitoring a late-night spot, heard the shots" and responded to the site of the disturbance.
Ryan said one man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds died. That man - who was believed to be in his late 20s - was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police chief said officers found an unconscious man in the area. He said that man sustained head injuries but he had not been shot. He was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City with what appeared to be "non-life-threatening injuries."
Ryan declined to discuss any evidence that had been recovered from the scene or how many people were being sought in connection with the incident.
A section of Robinson Street near the shooting scene was closed for several hours as investigators searched for evidence.
Patrol officers and detectives canvassed the area, interviewing witnesses and securing video from nearby businesses.
