More than a year after Dick's Sporting Goods shut down a store in its birthplace of Binghamton, the site remains idle.

The company, which now is headquartered in the Pittsburgh area, closed the location it called "Store Number One" on February 28, 2025. Officials never released an explanation for the decision to shutter the operation at 347 Court Street on the city's East Side.

There's been no activity at the site of the former store or at a smaller neighboring building that once was home to the Binghamton Dick's Sporting Goods store.

The building at 345 Court Street was home to a Dick's Kids' Korner shop for a time before it became a Video King store.

The company's media relations office did not respond to an inquiry seeking information about the status of the Court Street properties.

People who live and work in the neighborhood said they have heard nothing about any future uses for the site.

The Court Street location that was closed last year had only 13,000 square feet of space compared to the company's 140,000-square-foot House of Sport store in the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City. That site opened in 2023.

Richard Stack started the company that became Dick's Sporting Goods in 1948 on Binghamton's East Side. His first store was a small bait and tackle shop. It eventually became a multi-billion-dollar national chain.
