Construction work on a long-planned addiction services complex in a Binghamton neighborhood is nearing completion.

Fairview Recovery Services expects to launch operations in the new facility soon.

A three-story structure is being built at Fairview Avenue and Merrick Street on the city's East Side. The site is on the main Fairview Recovery Services campus on a hill overlooking Interstate 81.

The addition to the existing operations is being built on an area where a parking lot and the old Merrick House had been located. Work on the site of the $6 million project began last spring.

Heather Orner, Fairview's clinical director, said the current target date for opening the new building is April.

The Fairview addiction stabilization center will be moved to the site after construction has been completed. That facility now is located at 247 Court Street.

The 20-bed residential section of the center will be located on the second and third floors of the new building. The first floor will be used for the agency's administrative offices.

Fairview officials are considering future options for the Court Street building after the addiction stabilization center has been relocated to the East Side site.
