The Southern Tier SWAT team, in collaboration with the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division and the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, successfully apprehended a 17-year-old female in the City of Binghamton, who was wanted for attempted murder in connection with a recent shooting.

The arrest took place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, following intensive efforts to locate the juvenile fugitive. Information gathered by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division and the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force led to the identification of the juvenile's whereabouts.

The Southern Tier SWAT team was swiftly mobilized to execute a search warrant at a residence on Floral Ave. and subsequently an arrest warrant at a residence on Chelsea Square in the City of Binghamton, resulting in the successful apprehension of the juvenile without incident.

Sheriff Fred Akshar commended the efforts of the BCSO Warrants Division, the Southern Tier SWAT team, and their collaborative partners in Binghamton Police and the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force for their pivotal roles in ensuring the apprehension of the individual, emphasizing the commitment to ensuring community safety.

The juvenile, now in the custody of the City of Binghamton Police, will undergo processing on the charge of attempted murder and subsequent arraignment before being transferred to the custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Akshar underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in removing individuals engaged in violent activities from the community’s streets, emphasizing the commitment of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office to work in unity with the community and law enforcement partners to uphold safety for all residents.
