A Tioga County woman died shortly after she was repeatedly bitten by her dog at her home.

Authorities said the attack happened Thursday at 188 Pleasant View Drive in Apalachin.

Tioga County sheriff's deputies were sent to the residence to investigate a report that a person was down.

Deputies discovered 51-year-old Darnelle Greeno had been attacked by her dog. She had sustained multiple bites on her body.

Greeno was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said she died of injuries from the dog attack.

According to a Tioga County Sheriff's Office news release, the dog then attacked a person who was walking his dog. The person "was able to dispatch the animal."

Investigators said now that the dog is dead there is "no further public threat."

The news release provided no additional information about the circumstances surrounding the fatal dog attack.
