Another Broome County Pharmacy Suddenly Closed by National Chain
Many customers of a Broome County pharmacy were caught by surprise by the closing of the store.
The Walgreens unit at 335 Main Street in Johnson City was shut down this week.
A sign posted at the store entrance advised people that the store was closed on Monday.
The Walgreens store is just east of a CVS Pharmacy that closed in May 2022. The two stores were separated by a McDonald's restaurant.
Rumors that the Walgreens store was going to be shut down started to circulate last month. Although many of the shelves throughout the store were empty, customers who asked about the situation were advised the location was not going to close.
One employee said the store would be "restocking." Much of the merchandise was being sold at "75% off."
On Wednesday, would-be customers who visited the store expressed shock when they learned the place had been closed.
The Johnson City Walgreens pharmacy had opened in February 2007. The store was located directly across Main Street from Wilson Medical Center.
The former CVS Pharmacy building to the west now is being renovated for United Health Services.
The 10,000-square-foot structure is being prepared for use as a 24-hour retail and specialty pharmacy. It's scheduled to open early next year.
