Aliza Spencer: Frustration Grows 18 Months After Girl’s Death
It's now been a year-and-a-half since 12-year-old Aliza Spencer was fatally shot near her home on Binghamton's East Side.
Aliza died after she was shot in the chest while walking with her father and her 13-year-old brother on Bigelow Street on April 21, 2022.
Binghamton police have released little information about their investigation since the fatal shooting.
A reward fund of $32,000 has been established to encourage people to contact detectives with tips that could lead to the person responsible for Aliza's death.
Detective Lieutenant Matthew Hodnik told WNBF News investigators are still tracking down leads in the case. He said police need the community's help as the investigation continues.
People with information may contact the Binghamton police detective division at (607) 772-7080.
Purple ribbons honoring the memory of Aliza Spencer remain in place at homes and on utility poles in the area where she lived.
A memorial continues to be maintained on the corner of Bigelow and Chamberlain streets near the site where the sixth-grade student was shot.
Some of the signs and notes have started to fade. But one new message was posted recently next to the memorial. It reads: "What is REALLY being done to solve her murder? This is unacceptable!"
