New York State Governor, Kathy Hochul announced $4 million in grants to support programs at SUNY Oneonta and other SUNY campuses. This is to prepare students for careers in the offshore wind industry.

According to Dean Tracy Allen of the School of Sciences at SUNY Oneonta, they're excited to use the $300,000 grant funding to partner with ONC BOCES as they create the Offshore Wind Energy Pipeline Program.

The program is specifically for high school students in the area, as well as students at SUNY Oneonta. The goal is to provide a way for the students to go after careers in offshore wind energy, renewable energies, and even other areas including battery storage.

Students in the ONC BOCES Mechatronics and New Visions Engineering programs will learn all about wind and renewable energy in their classes. They'll also have the chance to meet industry experts and visit the wind energy installations, manufacturers, and other sites.

BOCES students will even have the chance to pursue micro credentials in wind technology and renewable energy. SUNY Oneonta plans to develop a Sustainable Energy Demonstration Lab (SEDL) to support research projects in offshore wind energy and renewable energies.

The high school students will get hands-on experience, and SUNY Oneonta students will have the chance to work with industry fellows and complete lab work. SUNY Oneonta students can also try for micro credentials and complete the 3+2 Engineering program in Applied Physics with a focus on sustainable energy.
