The study took a look at the rise of smart home tech across the U.S. and found that our state is leading the way in making sure everything in our homes is connected digitally.

New York is Crushing the Competition

New York residents have taken to smart home tech in a big way, with over 28% of us joining the digital revolution. That's a big percentage of our population that has turned their homes into WiFi domes of innovation.

Why is New York so high on the list? One of the reasons might be because of New Yorkers' love of entertainment. Smart home technology leans heavily towards entertainment and technology-enhanced entertainment is irresistible.

New Yorkers are going full-on George Jetson when it comes to our houses. However, we are not alone because Connecticut, Utah, and Maryland are close behind when it comes to adding digital to their homes.

The Digital Era

The study shows a big increase in smart home tech adoption across the nation. It's jumped over 15% in just a few years between 2015 and now. It looks like the popularity of smart homes is still on the rise, and we have to admit, it's hard not to see why.

Entertainment Takes the (Smart) Cake

New Yorkers aren't the only ones that love their entertainment and entertainment tech is leading the way. Smart TVs, virtual reality headsets, and other entertainment devices are the most popular types of smart devices, especially in New York

Smart Home Concerns and Hesitations

Despite all the love for smart homes, there are still some concerns and hesitations among users. While security systems are an essential aspect of smart homes, they are the most annoying type of smart tech according to many Americans.

Around 1 in 3 people believe that smart devices offer more fun than actual substance. It looks like there's still some convincing to do when it comes to getting everyone on board with smart home technology.

So, What's Next?

As New Yorkers, we're happy to see that we're leaders in the smart home movement. As technology continues to evolve, it's clear that New Yorkers (and Americans in general) will continue to embrace the benefits and conveniences of smart homes.

There may be some concerns to address but the future of smart homes in New York is looking very bright. Here's to more innovative homes in the Empire State!

10 Cities Where Homes Are Selling Faster Than Last Year

To find the housing markets where homes are selling briskly, Realtor looked at the median days on the market in the first week of October in the 100 largest metropolitan areas. Realtor compared those figures with those a year earlier. We selected only the metro with the largest decline in each state to provide geographical diversity. (Metros include the main city and surrounding towns, suburbs, and smaller urban areas.)
