The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian on the evening of July 4, 2025. The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. on State Highway 80 near the Rogers Conservation Center in the Town of Sherburne.

Driver Fled the Scene

Authorities say the vehicle involved fled the scene without stopping. The pedestrian victim, whose identity has not been released pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency services responded, but the driver had already left the area.

Vehicle Description Released

Investigators are now searching for a black, newer model Ram crew cab pickup truck. The truck is believed to have black rims and noticeable damage to the front right passenger side. The damage could include dents, broken headlights, or paint transfer from the impact.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area or has information about the truck or its driver to come forward. Even the smallest detail could help move the investigation forward.
