Scoring 6.39 out of 100 on the intimidation index, New York amps up the pressure with its vast number of speed cameras - with an unbelievable 27.83 per 1,000 miles. Let's not forget the heavy traffic, coming in at a staggering 1,008.37 million vehicle miles traveled per 1,000 miles of road.

New York's 'Congestion Toll' Affects Everyone - Including Funeral Processions

Speaking of heavy traffic, New York City started their $9 "congestion toll" at the beginning of the year with NO EXCEPTIONS. In a funeral procession, the hearse will be hit with the fee as well, and the cost will be passed along to the family.

New York might not have as many roundabouts as some other states, but the combo of speed cameras, crazy traffic, and unpredictable road conditions makes driving here a real adventure. Whether you're cruising the urban jungle of NYC (at $9 a pop) or cruising through upstate's scenic routes, New York's roads will  keep you on your toes.

So, as you hit the road in the Empire State, keep your wits about you, stick to the rules, and embrace the wild ride that comes with conquering one of America's trickiest driving terrains. Here's to epic road trips and the unbeatable thrill of mastering New York's challenging highways!
