If you grew up in Binghamton, there’s a good chance you’ve at least heard of the Police Athletic League (PAL) Camp, or maybe you even went yourself. It’s been around for more than 70 years, giving local kids a chance to have a real summer camp experience without the big price tag. Now, PAL Camp is calling on the community to help keep that mission going strong.

More Kids Than Ever, More Help Needed

This year’s camp enrollment is the highest it’s been in nearly four decades. That’s amazing news, but it also means more funding is needed to keep everything running smoothly. The camp is completely free for kids from low-income families in Binghamton and Broome County. That means transportation, meals, snacks, games, sports, and activities... all covered by donations and local sponsors.

No Cost, All Impact

We don’t want any child to miss out just because their family can’t afford it,” said PAL Camp President Matthew Lewis. “We’re here for the kids who really need this kind of support, and every dollar helps us make that happen.

The camp serves kids ages 5 to 13, many of whom live in underserved neighborhoods. It’s not just about keeping them busy during the summer because PAL Camp creates memories, builds confidence, and gives kids a safe, fun place to just be kids.

Community Backing Makes It Happen

This isn’t just a police led initiative, it’s a community effort. Organizations across Broome County are already stepping up, including the Sheriff’s Office.

Our Sheriff’s Office is proud to support this camp,” said Sheriff Fred Akshar. “And we’re encouraging others to pitch in too. Whether it’s $5 or $500, your donation helps shape a better future for our kids.”
