Dog treats sold in New York stores have been recalled after it was discovered that they had been tainted with salmonella.

The recall involves chicken dog treats that were sold under three brands by parent company Stormberg Foods. The contamination was discovered by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and includes the brands Beg & Barker, Billo’s Best, and Green Coast Pets.

The dog treats were sold between June 8, 2022, and June 22, 2002, in both retail stores and online. The product code for the recalled dog treats can be located on the back of the package either to the left or right of the UPC barcode.

  • 4 oz Beg & Barker Chicken Breast Strips UPC: 8 50025 54611 9; All batch numbers; Exp Dates: 06/06/23 to 06/23/23
  • 10 oz Beg & Barker Chicken Breast Strips UPC: 8 50025 54610 2; All batch numbers; Exp Dates: 06/06/23 to 06/23/23
  • 4 oz Billo’s Best Friend Chicken Breast Strips UPC: 8 50025 54682 9; All batch numbers; Exp Dates: 06/06/23 to 06/23/23
  • 4 oz Green Coast Pets Chicken Crisps UPC: 8 60001 92832 7; All batch numbers; Exp Dates: 06/06/23 to 06/23/23
  • 8 oz Green Coast Pets Chicken Crisps UPC: 8 60001 92833 4; All batch numbers; Exp Dates: 06/06/23 to 06/23/23

No illnesses have been reported related to this particular recall however, consumers are warned that they may be at risk of salmonella exposure if they fail to wash their hands after touching the treats.

Animals infected by salmonella generally display symptoms of lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, and abdominal pain. However, not all animals display symptoms, and those unknowingly infected can spread the infection to humans and other pets.

Any person exhibiting signs of a salmonella infection should contact their doctor. Any pet exhibiting symptoms should be taken immediately to a veterinarian.
