Endicott Restaurant Closes After Over 50 Years in Business
A longstanding Endicott restaurant closed its doors for the last time on Sunday, January 29.
For 52 years, Nina and Jerry Drossos owned and operated the Acropolis Restaurant, which was located on Washington Avenue in Endicott, but the pair decided that the time had come to retire. The Acropolis Restaurant operated in the space that once housed Luizzi’s Drug Store.
The closing of the Acropolis Restaurant comes on the heels of a handful of other Southern Tier food-related closings and restructurings.
On January 15, 2023, McDonald’s abruptly closed its location on East Main Street in Endwell. The closed McDonald’s was located directly across the street from a Burger King and an employee told Townsquare Media that since McDonald’s closed, Burger King has seen an uptick in business.
On Monday, January 16, 2023, Lupo's S&S Char Pit on West State Street in Binghamton closed its doors with no advance notice in early January with co-owner Steve Lupo telling Townsquare Media that he and his brother were contemplating whether or not to focus all of their attention on their meat processing business which is located in Endicott.
On January 20, 2023, Currys of India on Court Street in Binghamton closed its doors after operating for almost 35 years, indicating that the reason was related to retirement.
Finally, Battaglini Bakery at 111 Oak Hill Avenue announced on Friday, January 27, 2023, that it has stopped all walk-up service at its shop but will continue to supply to local grocery stores. The walk-up service has been halted due to a struggle in finding people to work.
