Everywhere you look, the signs for Halloween are there. It's that time of the year. Well, actually the first signs of Halloween began in some stores in mid-August. Maybe the early hype is trying to rival the Christmas season.

And with the Halloween season upon us, we love to immerse ourselves in the fun of spirits, ghosts, the unexplained, visiting haunted houses, and places that feature scaring the you- know-what out of you. And for the younger set, it's all about the costumes and the trick-or-treat candy of course.

But it doesn't always have to be about scary things. It can be something really cool like a ghostly tour. So where might you find such a thing? Glad you asked. The Preservation Association of the Southern Tier presents the Spirits of Binghamton's Past in October.

According to the PAST website, the organization "promotes historic preservation through community education, tours, newsletters, social media, a website, workshops, exhibitions, and lectures." They preserve clues to the local history and craftsmanship of bygone eras.

Throughout its existence, PAST has organized walking tours throughout the Southern Tier. It has one planned this October for those who love to learn about our community's past, along with the spirits associated with it.

This year's walking tour to meet some spirits including Andrew Carnegie, Rod Serling, George F. Johnson, Amelia Loguen Douglass, plus other local historic figures.

The guided tours will begin at the SUNY Broome Culinary & Event Center, located at 78 Exchange Street in Binghamton on Friday, October 28th. For more information, visit the Preservation Association of the Southern Tier website.
