New York DEC Forest Ranger Is A Hero To A Siberian Huskey
Have you checked the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website? I do it quite often because there are many interesting things to learn about happenings throughout the Empire State that relate to our environment.
Every week, the NYS DEC publishes a week in review, and it's amazing just how many Statewide Forest Ranger actions occur over seven days.
You'll find stuff like how to become a New York State Forest Ranger, see what search and rescue incidents happened during the week, wildfire reports, and reports of illegal activity on state lands and easements, to name a few.
In just one week in the review report that covered July 31st through August 3rd, 2024, New York State Forest Rangers were involved in 11 situations. One of them involves a Siberian Husky.

According to the New York State DEC Week in Review website, A wilderness rescue was performed by Forest Rangers in the Town of Keene, Essex County. The Ray Brook dispatch took a call from a hiker on Giant Mountain.
The hiker called to report that her Siberian Husky injured its foot, preventing it from walking any further. The hiker and her Siberian Husky were about 1.2 miles from the trailhead. The hiker was unable to carry the dog, so New York State Forest Ranger Lewis came to the rescue, bandaging the dog's paws, and then assisted on the walk back to the trailhead.
It's just one of many rescues that our Forest rangers perform every year. It's good to know they are here in the Empire State to help when help is needed. Check out more great things New York State Forest rangers do, on the NYS DEC website.
