Look Up! It’s The Binghamton Aeros Festival Of Giants Weekend

If you're like me, you love to watch aircraft take off and land at airports. I've always been fascinated with the many types of aircraft that have been built since the beginning of flying. When an airshow comes to our area or nearby, many people like myself come out to enjoy checking out the various aircraft up close up.

While we don't have an airshow coming up soon, here's an event you might be interested in attending this weekend (August 12th through the 14th) - the Binghamton Aeros will hold their 37th Aeros' Festival of Giants. When I first saw this, I had no idea what it was or who the Binghamton Aeros are.

The Festival of Giants will be held at the Chenango Bridge Airport located at 247 Airport Road in Chenango Bridge and is open to all giant-scale aircraft. For those like me who are not aware of this group, they were formed in 1985 according to the Binghamton Aeros website, by several R/C pilots (R/C stands for radio controlled.) These pilots build and fly giant-scale radio-controlled aircraft.

I've always found that type of hobby to be an interesting one. The group flies aircraft of many sizes and types of aircraft from micros to turbine jets, at the Chenango Bridge Airport. You don't have to be a member to watch. And their website even mentions that they offer a free training program to learn how to fly an R/C aircraft.

You don't need to be a pilot to enjoy this event, just come out and watch. And if you can't make this event, the Binghamton Aeros will be presenting Warbirds Over Chenango Bridge on September 24th at the Chenango Bridge Airport, featuring Warbird R/C Aircraft. For more information about these events and more about R/C flying, visit the Binghamton Aeros website.
