Halloween is just under two months away. Have you noticed that Halloween products have been on store shelves since July or even earlier? Yep. I think the Halloween season is trying to one-up the Christmas season as far as promotion goes.

Here is one event that is a fun Halloween tradition in the Southern Tier that brings lots of people around to check out - the 9th annual Broome County Parks, Recreation and Youth Services Scarecrow Contest & Display at Otsiningo Park in Binghamton, which is sponsored by the Broome County Stop-DWI Program.

Every year, businesses, organizations, and groups put together amazing designers that are set up through Otsiningo Park. This year (2024), the Scarecrow Contest & Display event will be on display from October 1st to the 23rd.

Interested in participating? Broome County Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services is looking for individuals, families, businesses, clubs, groups, and organizations to create a friendly scarecrow to display at Otsiningo Park for all to see and for the chance to win prizes!

There is no fee to be a part of the Scarecrow Contest & Display event. You will need to obtain an entry form which can be found on the Go Broome County website, which also contains all the information you will need for your scarecrow project.

The general public can cast a vote for their favorite scarecrow at Otsiningo Park beginning October 1st through October 23rd. Prizes will be awarded to the top five vote-getting scarecrows.

Start thinking about what you would like your scarecrow to look like, and get your entry form, which is due by September 25th, 2024. Broome County Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services note that scarecrows must be completed and set up at Otsiningo Park in Binghamton no later than October 1st.
