Do Police Have Ticket Quotas In New York?
As we get closer to the end of the month, you might think that now is the time for police to be more inclined to give out tickets.
Growing up I always heard that police have ticket quotas and would give out more tickets later in the month if they were close to not meeting those quotas.

That is not true. Police in New York State do not have quotas, in fact, it could soon be illegal for them to have them.
A bill proposed in the New York State Senate would make mandating ticket quotas on police a misdemeanor.

New York State Senate Bill S169 calls for discrimination against employees for failure to meet certain ticket quotas a class A misdemeanor. The bill was proposed last year by New York State Senator Michael Gianaris. It was also co-sponsored by four other senators as well.
The bill is currently sitting in a Senate committee and needs to be passed by that committee before it can be sent to the House to be voted on. If the House and Senate both pass the bill, it would then head to New York Governor Kathy Hochul to sign it into law.

As of right now, most police agencies state that there are no quotas on their officers but if this bill becomes law, it would be against the law to have them.
