Greater Binghamton Airport Gets Federal Infrastructure Funding
The Greater Binghamton Airport is getting a little over three million dollars for upgrades from the federal government.
Most of the money announced this week by U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Anthony Brindisi is earmarked for runway improvements like pavement and lighting.
The money is not designated for cosmetic or other add-ons as the local field continues to struggle to attract business and leisure travelers.
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar has reportedly been floating the idea of privatizing the airport, which currently only has service from one major airline.
