Broome County Executive Jason Garnar has officially appointed a pair of veteran county employees to serve as deputy county executives.

Garnar on Monday announced Colleen Wagner and Michael Ponticello have been chosen to serve in the deputy positions.

Wagner began working for several weeks as an acting deputy county executive following the retirement of Kevin McManus.

Ponticello has been director of the county Office of Emergency Services for about four years.

According to a news release from Garnar's office, the second deputy county executive position had been unfunded since 2015. Two positions within the county executive's office that had not been filled were eliminated to fund the second deputy position.

The county legislature has approved the budget adjustment. The appointments of Wagner and Ponticello are subject to approval by the legislature.

Wagner will work with county departments that oversee human services. Ponticello will work with the units that handle physical services.
