Near the top of the list is Tri-Cities Opera, which may be described as a sort of "farm-team" for major opera companies, helping young artists from all over the world hone their skills before moving on to the "big leagues." And, did you know, a good number of operas performed these days are modern, commissioned pieces like the 2021 performance in Binghamton of the Falling and the Rising dealing with modern combat, injury and recovery?

Other heavy-hitters include the Binghamton Symphony Orchestra, which absorbed the Binghamton Pops years ago. (Remember 99.1 the Whale floating the Binghamton Pops on a raft in the Chenango River every year for Pops on the River?) and Summer Savoyards that has allowed so many young thespians the chance to "tread the boards" and fulfill their Victorian-era operetta-dreams.

Then there is the colorful history of many of our theaters and even some of the groups in our area.

Scroll down and see if you can spot what musical group was believed to have been formed to perform for Union troops in the Civil War, what performance venue was built to house airplanes and at what historic theater your grampy could have purchased a Studebaker.

Some of these groups can be hired for private performances and the venues for meetings and events with special perks and services.  We include a link for each so you can get more information about performances, hiring artists and renting venues (or maybe even professional costumes)!

This, by all means, is not a complete list of all our performing arts treasures, think about all the outdoor music festivals like Spiedie Fest, Blues on the Bridge, etc., but we hope you enjoy learning about these Troupes, Groups and Stages.
