The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Freeze Warning from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. October 5 for subfreezing temperatures as low as 30 in some areas.

The Freeze Warning area includes Bradford, Susquehanna and Northern Wayne counties in Pennsylvania. In New York, Broome, Chenango, Cortland Delaware, Tioga, Northern Oneida, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, Madison, Southern Oneida, Otsego and Sullivan counties are in the cold zone.

Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Gardeners who want to try to hang on to their sensitive plants like Impatiens, coleus and other succulents should prepare to take steps tonight to protect them from the cold.
