Broome County officials say passengers will be able to ride BC Transit buses at no charge as new seating limits are implemented to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

Buses are running as scheduled but partitions have been added between the driver's compartment and passenger seats in accordance with social distancing guidelines.

The free ride policy eliminates the need for anyone to pay a fare, touch cash or a farebox.

Access to all buses will be through rear doors with exceptions for those who use wheelchairs or passengers who are mobility-impaired.

In addition to increased cleaning, BC Transit staff will disinfect frequently-touched surfaces like handrails, seat backs and doors.

Broome County residents are being asked to avoid all unnecessary travel. The health department urges those who are sick to stay home and contact their healthcare provider.
