There are many wrestling fans in the Capital Region. I remember meeting Shad when he visited the Capital Region during Caucus Weekend. It was so exciting to see Shad Gaspard when he visited the Capital Region, I remembered him from Cryme Tyme. Fans across the nation have been hit with a gigantic loss, the death of WWE wrestler Shad Gaspard.

Many people don’t know that Shad Gaspard (39) was born and raise in Brooklyn, NY and started off as a basketball player at Georgia Perimeter College. Before beginning his career as a wrestling star, Gaspard worked as a bodyguard for well known Hollywood stars such as Britney Spears, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Mike Tyson. Maybe it was because of his body type, his charisma, or a combination of the two, but Gaspard had a great career with the WWE.

Shad Gaspard started his WWE wrestling career in 2006 and wrestled professionally for several years. He is most notably known for his SmackDown performances as part of Cryme Tyme with his partner JTG. When Gaspard left the wrestling scene, he had a successful acting career with appearances on both TV and the big screen.

Things turned really tragic for the wrestling star when he went missing on Sunday, May 17, 2020, in the afternoon. Gaspard was swimming with his son at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a lifeguard saw Mr. Gaspard about 50 yards offshore when a wave crashed over him and sweep him out to sea. Chief Ken Haskett, of the fire department’s Lifeguard Section, told NBC News that Mr. Gaspard insisted that they save his son first. He pushed his son to the lifeguard before he was overtaken by the water and was never seen alive again. Mr. Gaspard’s 10-year-old son was not physically injured in the incident.

A person discovered a body on the beach on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that the body discovered around 1:25 a.m. was indeed the body of Mr. Gaspard. All of us here at Hot 99.1 send our sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Shad Gaspard.
