Endwell Man Gets Prison for Trying to Burn Down JC House

A Broome County judge has sentenced a man to seven years in prison for using a Molotov cocktail in an attempt to torch a Johnson City residence.

43-year-old Belven Fajardo of Endwell was convicted of first-degree attempted arson in a June trial.

Fajardo was sentenced Friday morning by Judge Joseph Cawley.

Johnson City police arrested Fajardo after two incendiary devices were used to try to set a fire at an apartment house at 197 Grand Avenue on May 29, 2017.

Fajardo had been arrested nearly three months before the Johnson City incident.

In March 2017, he was involved in a standoff with police at a home on Marion Avenue in Endwell. Investigators said he had reported an armed man was holding an infant hostage.

Police later determined Fajardo may have been hallucinating after using crack cocaine and the purported incident involving a baby never occurred.
