40-year-old Diane Lopez-Edouard told authorities she saw traffic slowed ahead of her for a disabled vehicle on Interstate 81, one mile north of State Route 11 in the Town of Onondaga at 8:36 a.m. December 19, couldn’t stop in time and swerved, hitting the rear side of a State Police vehicle at the side of the road.

The trooper, who had been assisting the motorist in the disabled vehicle, was taken to Upstate University Hospital for neck and back injuries.  He was treated and released.

Lopez-Edouard, however, broke both arms and was admitted to surgery at Upstate Medical Center.

State Police say the Endicott woman is charged with a violation of the New York State Move Over law that requires motorists to move into the next lane away from police, fire, ambulance, tow-truck or road crews at the side of the road if possible.
