Endicott Mayor Wants Huron to Repair Crumbling Building

Sidewalks remain closed near an old building on the Huron Campus in Endicott because of safety concerns related to falling concrete.

Barricades have been in place around Building 38 at Clark Street and Oak Hill Avenue for several weeks.

Endicott Mayor Linda Jackson said she's concerned about code violations at the structure. Pieces of concrete have been coming down from sections of the building.

In recent months, the mayor expressed frustration that the potential safety issues at the site haven't been addressed.

Speaking on WNBF's Binghamton Now program, Jackson said the barricades have been at the site for a long time "and that's why they're being brought into court for it."

The massive six-story building was used for several decades as a tannery by Endicott Johnson. IBM acquired it in 1969.

Huron Real Estate Associates president Chris Pelto could not be reached Friday to discuss plans for the building.
