The Broome County District Attorney’s office says 34-year-old Shawn Kostick, who was accused of killing 59-year-old Harry Kostick between September 1 and October 3, 2014 on Lincoln Avenue in Endicott and writing thousands of dollars in checks from his dad’s bank account, has pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter.

The younger Kostick was charged with murder, manslaughter, intimidating a witness, forgery and contempt under a Grand Jury indictment handed up in February 2019.

Harry Kostick had been missing for close to five years before his son was implicated in the case.

If Shawn Kostick had been convicted of the original charges, the maximum sentence could have been 25-years to life in prison.  He is now expected to be sentenced to ten years in prison which would begin after he completes a current prison sentence for burglary.  The prison term would then be followed by parole for both charges.

Last September, Kostick turned down a plea deal that would have put him in prison for a minimum of 15 years to life.
