This comes after a season where Manning's starting job was taken over by rookie Daniel Jones.

Manning was drafted out of Ole Miss in the 2004 NFL Draft by the San Diego, who subsequently traded to the Giants in the now-famous Phillip Rivers trade.

"For 16 seasons, Eli Manning defined what it is to be a New York Giant both on and off the field," said Giants President and CEO John Mara in a statement on the Giants' website. "Eli is our only two-time Super Bowl MVP and one of the very best players in our franchise's history. He represented our franchise as a consummate professional with dignity and accountability. It meant something to Eli to be the Giants quarterback, and it meant even more to us. We are beyond grateful for his contributions to our organization and look forward to celebrating his induction into the Giants Ring of Honor in the near future."

While he didn't always have the explosive stats of his brother and NFL legend Peyton, Manning does have two Super Bowl victories, both upset victories over the Patriots, and the first of which featuring that David Tyree catch.

Manning was named the MVP of both of those games. Manning suited up for 248 total games for the Giants, which includes 210 straight regular season games from 2004 through 2017, a streak only bettered by Brett Favre. Manning never missed a game due to injury.

According to the team, Manning will officially announce his retirement on Friday.
