Driver Charged In Binghamton Pedestrian Death

A Vestal woman has been arrested after a car struck a pedestrian on Binghamton's West Side, resulting in the man's death.

Authorities say 36-year-old Jennifer Grenchus has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, a felony.

Witnesses said a car hit a man on Main Street near Laurel Avenue around 5:45 p.m. Monday. The pedestrian was dragged a considerable distance before the vehicle finally stopped in a parking lot next to the Tom's Coffee, Cards and Gifts store.

The name of the man who died has not been released by Binghamton police.

Detectives and crash reconstruction experts were at the scene for hours as they launched an investigation.

According to city police, Grenchus was arrested in the same neighborhood only four days earlier on drug-related charges. Records indicate she was arrested for multiple misdemeanor narcotics charges at Jarvis and Charlotte streets - two blocks from where the man was struck on Monday.
