Don’t Take These BEFORE You Go Get Your Covid-19 Vaccine

It appears that people are ready to go get their shots. Now we're dealing with more of a supply and demand issue. We appear to have more folks ready and supplies are being used up as soon as mass vaccine events are being held.

Now it's the waiting game of who's in what group, who's eligible for their shots, and when can they get them?

If you are lucky enough to be up for the vaccine soon listen carefully.

You may have heard about problems of the shot hurting and leaving your arm sore. And you might want to take a pain reliever BEFORE you get your shot.

The CDC is advising AGAINST THAT.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging people not to take pain relievers like Tylenol or Motrin before getting a COVID-19 vaccination.

Researchers say they don’t have the information right now on the impact of such medications — called NSAIDs, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs — on the COVID-19 vaccine-induced antibody response. (WKBN)

So skip the Tylenol or Motrin BEFORE the shot. Afterwards, you can talk it over with the health care professionals administering the vaccine about what's best for you.

They also advise against you taking an antihistamine beforehand and getting other vaccines so close to getting your Covid shot.

Administration of antihistamines to COVID-19 vaccine recipients prior to vaccination to prevent allergic reactions is not recommended. Antihistamines do not prevent anaphylaxis, and their prophylactic use may mask cutaneous symptoms, which could lead to a delay in the diagnosis and management of anaphylaxis. (CDC)

You're advised to wait at least 14 days before taking another vaccine after your Covid shot..

Also, the COVID-19 vaccine should not be taken at the same time as any other vaccine. Health officials say you should wait at least 14 days after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine to get any other immunizations. (WKBN)

And here's something I had never even thought about. If you start with one brand of vaccine, it's not advised that you take your second shot of the other. No mixing of vaccines. At present, they are not believed to be interchangeable.

However, these mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are not interchangeable with each other or with other COVID-19 vaccine products. The safety and efficacy of a mixed-product series have not been evaluated. Both doses of the series should be completed with the same product.(CDC)

If you start with Pfizer, you second shot should also be Pfizer. Ditto with Moderna.
