Demi Lovato Lashes out at ‘TIME’ for Including Trump on Person of the Year Shortlist
In keeping with TIME's choice to honor the year's "Silence Breakers" as the magazine's collective Person of the Year, Demi Lovato is raising her voice to the news outlet.
The "Tell Me You Love Me" singer took the magazine to task Wednesday night (December 6) for what she saw as total hypocrisy among its choices for Person of the Year picks. On one hand, Time honored the year's "Silence Breakers," women — some celebrities, some not — who risked their jobs by speaking out about sexual misconduct in the workplace.
Then, on the other hand, the magazine included on its shortlist President Donald Trump, who faces more than a dozen looming accusations of sexual assault.
"Time mag highlights brave women coming forward against sexual assault on the cover but names a man with sexual assault allegations against him runner up to person of the year.. Really @TIME? #hypocrites" Lovato began her Twitter-tirade.
Lovato acknowledged the magazine's picks for the distinction aren't always rooted in what's honorable, just newsworthy. Still, it registered as offensive, she said.
"To be named POTY by @TIME it should be for doing something positive or brave LIKE the women on the cover. It’s annoying that it’s just about impact on the news."
And followers gave Lovato snaps for being so forthright.
"Keep speaking out this is why we love you!!! you are our voice! Love you so much," one wrote, while another noted "That's my baby, drag them."
