Cuomo: All New York Healthcare Workers Must Get Vaccination
Governor Andrew Cuomo says healthcare workers in New York state will be required to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
Cuomo on Monday announced the vaccination mandate that includes staff at hospitals and long-term care facilities. The requirement is scheduled to take effect on September 27.
The state Department of Health will issue the orders to New York hospitals and nursing homes. The governor's announcement indicated there would be "limited exceptions" for people with religious or medical reasons.
According to Cuomo, three-quarters of the state's hospital workers have completed a vaccine series.
A news release stated "Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul's administration was brief prior to the announcement.
Hochul is expected to become governor on August 24 when Cuomo's resignation is scheduled to become effective.
