A person who has tested positive for the coronavirus is staying on the SUNY Broome campus in the town of Dickinson.

Broome County officials Monday afternoon announced the patient is being housed in a facility at the community college off Front Street.

According to a statement released by County Executive Jason Garnar, the person "is isolated and being brought food to their door."

The county health department is to be in touch "with the patient every day as part of their contact tracing to meet the patient's needs."

The state health department had directed counties to find isolation facilities for COVID-19 positive patients to stay if needed.

Broome County had determined the SUNY Broome campus would be a potential location to isolate patients. The statement said this is the first instance the facility has been needed.
