County-Operated Covid-19 Vaccine Site Opens at SUNY Broome
Another Covid-19 mass vaccination facility has become operational in Broome County.
Public health director Rebecca Kaufman said the vaccine site at the SUNY Broome Community College ice center opened Thursday after a dry run last week.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Kaufman said the location is "perfect" because it offers a large indoor space that's "very airy."
The ice center also has room to accommodate a bigger operation if more vaccine doses become available in the coming weeks and months.
About 400 people were expected to be vaccinated on the first day the facility was open to the public.
Kaufman said appointments are not being booked for the town of Dickinson site until the county knows it will have vaccine doses on hand.
The county typically receives a notification on Sunday about how many doses will be coming. Kaufman said those who are eligible then are advised that they may make an appointment.
