Congressman Anthony Brindisi says he wants the New York State Public Service Commission to get involved following interruption of cable television service over the weekend to thousands of Spectrum Cable customers.

The Democrat said “Upstate New Yorkers are paying for services from Spectrum and the company is not delivering.”  Brindisi says small businesses and families were hurt by the interruption Saturday night into Sunday. He said businesses reported losing access to credit card machines and internet outages were also blamed on the interruption.

Spectrum said on Twitter over the weekend that the problem was the result of fiber optic damage.

Brindisi and Spectrum have a long history of disagreements dating back to the former Assemblyman’s campaign for the House in 2018.

During that campaign against Republican incumbent, Claudia Tenney, Brindisi’s ad criticizing the cable company’s rate increases was rejected with Spectrum saying “the ad did not meet our criteria.”  The ad began airing in August on cable channels after, Brindisi said, the Federal Communications Commission got involved.

Last year, Brindisi called for a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau investigation into Spectrum’s debt collection practices.
