Chenango County Health Department officials say it remains imperative that residents keep wearing masks, maintain physical distancing of six feet, wash hands and get vaccinated as the COVID-19 pandemic is still present and a real threat.

The warning about a continued COVID threat comes as Chenango County reports it has lost two more residents to the coronavirus pandemic.  County Health officials reported May 11 the death toll has risen to 76.

Chenango was the only county reporting an additional death in the May 1 update.  Broome County added 20 cases to its total. Chenango had three new cases.  Delaware reported six new positives and both Cortland and Tioga Counties had ten new cases to report on Tuesday.

A number of vaccination clinics are being scheduled for around the region in the next few days and the New York State vaccination centers, including the one at the former Gannett printing facility in Johnson City, are not requiring appointments to get the shot.  All residents over the age of 16 are eligible to be vaccinated.  Teens can only get the Pfizer vaccine, which is available at the State vaccination site in Johnson City.
