“Bank of the Future” Project Planned Near JC Wegmans

A regional bank is planning to build a new facility on land next to the Wegmans store in Johnson City.

Tioga State Bank has acquired several properties near the intersection of Harry L Drive and Oakdale Road for the project.

Bank president Robert Fisher said the branch will feature a "newer high-tech, high-touch feel" that will be different from traditional offices.

Fisher said the bank "of the future" will have a pod design that is being adopted by the industry. The branch is expected to have up to 3,000 square feet of space.

Fisher said Tioga State Bank will be working with town of Union officials on the details of the project. He said state and federal regulatory approvals also will be needed.

A former animal hospital and other nearby buildings recently were demolished to clear the site for the new bank, although groundbreaking is not expected to occur until next spring.

Fisher said construction likely will take about six months to complete. He said the new branch will have at least four full-time employees.

The Johnson City branch will be Tioga State Bank's 12th full-service office. The bank operates offices in Broome, Tioga, Chemung and Tompkins counties.
