County officials held a briefing March 11 and reported eight people have been tested with six of those tests coming back negative and two still pending.  Health officials say five people are in precautionary isolation and being checked on regularly.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, Emergency Services and Health Department officials are meeting regularly to review the constantly-changing situation and look at precautionary and possible response options.

Unlike New Rochelle, which is at the center of the outbreak in New York State and is prohibiting large gatherings of people, no localities in Broome County are being isolated or ordered to put restrictions on public gatherings.

There are also no confirmed cases of COVID-19 being reported in surrounding counties.  The nearest reported positive test is a “presumed coronavirus” case in Wayne County, Pennsylvania to the south and east of Broome County.
