The man who was shot in the face after he allegedly tried to elude state troopers in Binghamton has been arraigned on attempted murder charges and sent to Broome County Jail.

Authorities say 36-year-old James Giacalone of Glen Aubrey was released Saturday from Geisinger Medical Center in Dansville, Pennsylvania. He was turned over to the New York State Police Violent Felony Warrant Squad.

Officials say Giacalone previously had waived extradition proceedings. He was arraigned before Binghamton City Court Judge Carol Cocchiola and ordered held without bail.

Giacalone was taken into custody on January 2 in a neighborhood on Binghamton's South Side after he allegedly struck a state trooper on Conklin Avenue following a car chase.

Investigators say the trooper fired one shot, striking Giacalone in the face. The name of the trooper involved has not been made public. He was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released.
