A sheriff's deputy who sustained serious injuries in a head-on crash on Route 17 has gone home after being hospitalized for a few days.

32-year-old Kristy Botsford was hurt when a 2018 Tesla slammed into her patrol vehicle on the expressway in Vestal early Friday morning.

Botsford was treated for leg and ankle injuries at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. She was released from the hospital Monday afternoon.

Authorities say the driver of the car that crashed into the sheriff's department SUV - 34-year-old Daniel Butash of Endwell - was charged with DWI, assault and vehicular assault.

Police say Butash had been driving eastbound in the highway's westbound lanes when his car collided with the vehicle Botsford was operating.

Butash was treated for minor injuries at Wilson. He was arraigned and then taken to Broome County Jail.

Sheriff's department Captain Kathleen Newcomb said Botsford seemed to be in "good spirits" when she last spoke to her when she was still hospitalized.
