When I first heard that the Broome County Department of Planning and Economic Development was looking for a Call for Walls for painting, I thought, sure all the walls in my house are well overdue for a new paint job.

Well, that's not exactly what they are looking for. The Planning and Economic Development is looking for sites for another round of their iDistricts Murals and Mosaics Public Art Program. Their goal is to bring more public art in the Southern Tier featuring murals and mosaics.

The walls to be identified and painted need to be within Broome County’s Innovation Districts. According to the Broome County Department of Planning and Economic Development, if you have a building with a wall that you would like to be considered, there are a few requirements, including being visible from the public, location, historic character of the building, size, and visibility, among other considerations.

If your property is selected, you will be required to work with the project partners with certain guidelines including preparing the wall for artwork and maintaining the artwork in good condition for a minimum of 10 years.

In case you are wondering, no there is not any compensation for the creation or display of the art. For complete information, how to apply, requirements, and the iDistricts maps, visit the Broome County Department of Planning and Economic Development website.

As for my walls that haven't been painted in a couple of decades or so, I guess it's time for a trip to my local hardware store for some painting supplies and a lot of painting work doing something I am not a fan of. Poor me, right?
