Broome County Collins Aerospace Workers Offered Buyouts

Employees at the former Rockwell Collins plant in the town of Union have a few more days to decide whether they'll leave the company.

Rockwell Collins was acquired in November by United Technologies Corporation. It now is known as Collins Aerospace.

The facility on Lewis Road in Choconut Center has about 200 employees.

Collins Aerospace in December offered eligible workers at various sites voluntary buyouts.

The goal of the buyout program is to reduce the need for layoffs as company managers plan changes following the acquisition.

The one-time incentive offer was made to most non-executive company employees.

Collins Aerospace spokeswoman Pam Tvrdy-Cleary said eligible workers have until February 1 to make a decision.

The last day of work for employees who choose to take advantage of the buyout program would be February 15.

It's not known what the employment target is for the local plant or what its long-term future may be under its new owners.
