Residents of Broome County and the city of Binghamton who were affected by the flash flooding will get a break when they start cleaning up.

The county and the city are waiving some fees for people disposing of flood debris.

County Executive Jason Garnar has authorized the landfill to waive tipping fees associated with flood damage. The waiver is only for Broome County residents and it does not apply to commercial or business storm debris.

Tipping fees for flood-related debris will be waived through August 29. Residents will be required to bring two copies of a waiver form when they drop off flood debris at the landfill.

County residents with question may contact the Solid Waste Division at 607.778.2250.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David said the city will waive its "blue bag" rules for residents affected by the flooding. The program will run through August 24.

The waiver applies to residential properties in neighborhoods hit by the flash flooding. Sections of the East Side were affected most, although some other parts of the city encountered some flooding problems.

People in flood-damaged neighborhoods may use standard garbage bags at no cost.

Residents ordinarily must use official blue bags sold by the city.
