Brindisi: Profane Call for Trump Impeachment “Not Helpful”

Congressman Anthony Brindisi isn't supporting another new Democratic member of the House who vowed to impeach President Trump.

Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib was recorded using expletive-laden language telling supporters Thursday night that she intended to work toward presidential impeachment.

Brindisi, who was sworn in to represent New York's 22nd Congressional District along with Tlaid, said her comments are "just not helpful."

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Friday, Brindisis said when he was campaigning, the issue of impeachment "rarely came up at town hall meetings."

Brindisi said people in the district that includes Binghamton and Utica expressed more concern about healthcare and jobs.

The congressman said those who spoke with while running for office wanted him "not to get bogged down in impeachment talk, not to get bogged down in investigations."

Brindisi said the ongoing investigations "should play out" but lawmakers in Washington "have to get work done here."

Tlaib isn't apologizing for her impeachment comments. On Friday, she tweeted: "This is not just about Donald Trump. This is about all of us. In the face of this constitutional crisis, we must rise."

Brindisi disagreed with that assessment. He said: "We have come through situations of divisiveness like this before and we have thrived. We'll continue to do that."
